Did you know?
“Perhaps Tubac's most famous person was soldier and explorer Capt. Juan Bautista de Anza II. During his tenure at Tubac (1760-1776), Anza built the chapel of Santa Gertrudis, the foundations of which lie beneath today's St. Ann's Church. Anza's second expedition to the Pacific coast departed from Tubac October 23, 1775. It included approximately 300 soldiers and colonists, and culminated with the founding of San Francisco.” Tubac Chamber of Commerce.
The town of Tubac is located between Tucson and Nogales off of Interstate 19. It’s about a 30-40 minute drive from Tucson and if you have never been (or even if you have), it is a great way to spend an afternoon. The town is built with amazing old-world charm with some of the architecture dating back to the 1700’s.
Tubac Arizona was a bustling town in its day and was part of the wild west history that Arizona is famous for. You can visit Tubac anytime and wander through this artist’s town.

recommend you wander through the shops on main street and stop for bite
to eat in one of the open air eateries or in one of the many
restaurants surrounding the main street.
Check the website for
events if you are heading down. October events include Tubac Anza Days
which showcases historically-based street theater, multi-cultural dance,
assorted foods and arts activities for kids. Every February for the
last 50 plus years, there is an event called the Tubac Festival of the
Arts. Artists, crafters, musicians from as far away as Canada descend
onto the Tubac streets. This event is fun and entertaining for the whole
family. There are other events throughout the year, as well.
